Time is a debilitating disease which haunts a crowded and polluted world where the sky is discolored by the aftermath of restricted nuclear wars. Sex is uncommon due to worry of illness and widespread despair. People stay vicariously by way of tv actors who write their own strains. This poem strongly resembles numerous Roman poems during which the lover, prevented from being with his beloved for some reason, speaks to the door, blaming it for his plight. Each a half of the door, threshold, body, latch, and so forth. was thought to have its personal divine spirit which one might pray to. In this poem it is not clear who has locked the door, but it might be the woman’s mother and father.
