In 1882 he turned interested in pictures and commenced specializing in maritime subjects. He and his spouse, Etta Bowles, along with their three children moved to Boston, Massachusetts. In Boston he joined boating and yacht golf equipment and in 1891 he printed the Illustrated Coast Pilot, a book with images of important crusing directions and maritime navigating landmarks.

After only six months, Kirk offered his portion of the studio to Wilse. Charles A. Kinnear was born in Metamora, Illinois, on March 22, 1868. He got here to Seattle together with his mother and father, George and Rebecca Kinnear in 1878. He graduated from the original location of the University of Washington in 1888. He then earned a regulation degree from the University of Michigan in 1890.
